My name is David Bennett and this is my personal blog. I started it because a blog was something one felt one ought to have, so I created one. I have contributed to it sporadically over time, but one of my New Year’s resolutions was to post at least once a week. Let’s see how we do.

Don’t expect anything very personal or a daily journal; what you will find here is the stuff I’ve been thinking about or have an opinion on: ideas, puzzles, commentary or the like.

The blog name comes from an early Theodore Sturgeon sci-fi story entitled “The Hurkle is a Happy Beast”. Hurkles have six legs and are incessantly happy. There was also an early computer game called “Hunt the Hurkle”, which I assume was inspired by this story but was not so happy. I registered the domain many years ago, and the name seems to fit.

The picture is the view from a block of land we used to own. It’s a long distance view of Port Phillip bay south of Melbourne, and if you know the area well you can probably work out where the photo was taken. Hint: that’s Dandenong and water on the horizon.

I also have a blog where I write about my professional activities, at www.wotcher.com. My personal resume/brochure site is www.davidmbennett.com.
